13.1

I know you are wondering why I have posted a picture of our "smelly" shoes. Well Myron and I have made a commitment to ourselves and to each other that we are going to train for and run a half marathon in September. And last weekend we went to a specialty shoe shop and got properly fitted for our jogging shoes. And here they are:

We have completed "Week 1" of our training program and we are both complaining of sore and achy bodies, but we will plug on! Even though we have not and probably will not be able to train together it is still great to know that we are working at this together and that we have the support and encouragement of our "best friend."

We welcome any advice or words of encouragement that you might have. And we will be sure to keep you updated on the training!

My sister-in-law is a marathon runner. Okay, that is the 26.2 vs. the 13.1, but running is running, yes? I know that she used the running book, Marathon, The Ultimate Training Guide by Hal Higdon. It talks of training, diet and so forth. She has run Chicago twice and Boston (a qualifier race) once. Her qualifying time on the last Chicago race was 8 1/2 minutes a mile to go on to Boston. YIKES!

A good thing you did by being properly fitted for running shoes. People don't realize that you really need a little bigger shoe to compensate for all the pounding and swelling.

She sings the praises of "Goo." You'd have to look it up. It is a sugary something or another that you use when you run.

She also wears clothing that she is fine to shed and ditch. It's generally chilly when you start, so it is hat, gloves and sweatshirt (with shorts, obviously), but you shed as you go. Yank and ditch! (People scoop things up and garbage deposit them.) Just an FYI.

Good for you! I'm a curb crew kind of girl! Running the Akron Marathon?

Good luck on training!
